Because of the time spent in a bad posture behind a screen or at the wheel, many of us feel daily tensions in our neck or shoulders. To overcome this, here are a few tips and exercises approved by the chiropractors at the AFC.

In case of proven pathology, ask your chiropractor for advice before doing these exercises.

1. Neck rotations

Standing with your hands on your hips or sitting with your hands on your desk, back straight, gently tilt your head to the left, trying to bring your ear closer to your shoulder. Hold for 10 seconds and move to the other side. Then, tilt your head down, bringing your chin closer to your chest, hold for 10 seconds, then straighten your head. Continue by gently dropping it back, 10 seconds and straighten. Finally, turn your head to the right until you feel a slight stretch to the left of your neck, hold for 10 seconds. Repeat on the other side.

2. Shoulder bearings

Stand with your hands along your body or sit with your hands on your desk, back straight. Roll your shoulders back and forth in a circular motion. Repeat 10 times and start again, back to front this time. 

3. Arms in the air

Stand with your hands on your hips or sit with your hands on your desk, back straight. Raise your arms in the air, straight up over your head as if you were trying to touch the ceiling with your fingertips. Keeping your head and torso still, move your arms backwards until they pass behind your head. You should feel a stretch in the middle of your back. Bring your arms back just above your head. Repeat 10 times.

4. Relax!

The body reacts to stress by contracting the muscles... To relax your muscles... start by just relaxing. To do this, take some time off to recharge your batteries: you can, for example, do some breathing exercises or take a short walk after lunch or dinner.
